Mental Health Care That Puts Humanity First: Meet Our Growing Team of Expert Therapists

A group of physicians engaged in a discussion.

In a world where mental health care can often feel impersonal and difficult to access, the Overcoming Addictions’ team is committed to putting humanity first. At Overcoming Addictions, we believe that recovery is more than just treating symptoms—it’s about restoring lives with compassion, understanding, and expert care.

Many individuals struggling with addiction face long wait times—often weeks—for expensive assessments before they can access the help they need. We eliminate that barrier by providing immediate, free evaluations, ensuring that support is available when it’s needed most. When it comes to substance consumption, giving the brain time to recover is essential. Damaged neuronal receptors require time to heal, allowing for a better balance of neurotransmitters in the hippocampus, which plays a crucial role in memory, learning, and emotional regulation.

Our dedicated professionals are not just highly qualified in holistic addiction treatment and mental health therapy, but they are also deeply empathetic individuals who understand the personal struggles of those they serve. With an expanding team of specialists, Overcoming Addictions continues to set the standard for accessible, patient-focused mental health care.

A Legacy of Compassionate Care

The roots of Overcoming Addictions trace back to 2003, when Dr. Fred Everett, an experienced internal medicine physician, arrived in Minneapolis and joined Johnson Street Clinic. While treating patients, he noticed a recurring trend: many individuals were struggling with opioid dependency due to long-term narcotic prescriptions for chronic pain. The introduction of Suboxone that year offered new hope. Dr. Everett immersed himself in learning about this breakthrough treatment and was soon witnessing profound transformations in his patients.

With growing demand, three additional physicians joined Dr. Everett, treating 120 Suboxone patients each month. He later continued his work at the Addiction Care Practitioner Clinic until retiring in 2015. However, retirement did not bring fulfillment. Both he and his long-time colleague, Art Fretag, missed the profound satisfaction of helping individuals reclaim their lives from addiction. In 2019, they established Overcoming Addictions at 8100 Wayzata Boulevard, Minneapolis, with a vision to make addiction treatment barrier-free. Today, Overcoming Addictions’ team of experts carries forward this legacy, ensuring that anyone seeking help can access world-class treatment with just a single call.
